Realizing and Financing the Commercial Potential of Electric Power Storage
Realizing and Financing the Commercial Potential of Electric Power Storage
Wednesday, May 11, 2011:
1:00 - 2:30 pm Eastern US Time
The potential of electric power storage to reshape many aspects of the national power system is becoming increasingly evident. The question even at this relatively early stage of storage application is: how will storage be commercialized and financed?
The key questions presented are:
- What types of storage applications have the greatest commercial potential?What Types of Roles will storage assets play in the power industry? Which entities are best positioned to take advantage of these opportunities?
- What financial structures are most promising for the financing of different types of storage?
- How will regulation affect the profile of commercial and financial decisions?
- How will the profile and opportunities change over time?
The significance of these questions are not just confined to the commercial backers of types of technologies and/or forthcoming engineering improvements of them.
They go to the heart of several on -going policy and planning questions with broader commercial implications :
- The extent to which the renewables potentially can be integrated into the grid and enable them to serve as reliable generation sources;
- The feasibility of modifying T&D construction patterns and reducing long term capital expenditure patterns;
- The longer term possibility of emergence of a new businesses selling stored power as a commodity or an ongoing enhancement of reliability; and
- The improvement of system dispatch management and decision-making through utilization of storage capabilities.
- The impact of future FERC rulemakings on permissible rates for storage-based services and the regulatory characterization of storage assets.
To answer the questions posed in a way which sheds light on the larger questions presented, this Webinar presents a panel of leading experts on each area.
